The lie in our marriage

The lie in our marriage has it all. A killer plot made for keeping you up at night and tensing your shoulders.

On a warm spring evening, guests gather in a perfectly manicured garden to celebrate Maggie and Len’s twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Maggie leans against the apple tree, watching her fun-loving husband and darling children as her heart swells with pride. As the joyful party atmosphere disappears into the night, close by, the lifeless body of a young woman is pulled from a river.

Slipping upstairs to find the special gift for her adoring husband, Maggie stumbles across something else hidden amongst the dusty boxes of family keepsakes…

A printed pink silky scarf that doesn’t belong to her. She holds it up to her face, breaths in the sweet sickly perfume, it’s scent familiar, and tendrils of fear snake through her body. The scarf is stained with blood.

Already from the get-go you’re invited into what you know will be a thrilling read. The paranoia is suffocating and it’s impossible to not be tainted by it. You’re engrossed whether you want to or not.

I liked Anna -Lou’s writing style. In the detective’s chapter were especially noteworthy. Packed with surprising and pleasing metaphors combined with my type of humor made it a pleasure to read. Dan would for sure get a confession out of me! I found myself chuckling from his way of thinking and talking, which is a rare occurrence in most thrillers.

If you like books that moves you, this might just be it. Maggie’s pain is described in a way that resonates with you. You can almost taste the desperation and dread after new terrifying discoveries. And then BAM! You’re hit by a car midway in the book, feeling shellshocked. You forgive the somewhat too perfect timing, because it makes you rethink what you suspected. And when all is revealed, you realize there were many hints sprinkled here and there . Even if it’s hard to imagine that something like this can happen in real life, it seems plausible since the motive makes sense.

I thoroughly enjoyed the lie in our marriage and has already bought the first book in the series.

Thank you to netgalley and bookatoure for the arc

The nix

For eg ville ikkje kjøpt boka uten anbefaling. Seinere dukke...

The resort by Sarah Goodwin

Sarah Goodwin is back on track again after veering off her usual stile with the 13th girl. Like stranded, we’re immediately put transported to a claustrophobic space where the plot unfolds.  Mila and her husband are going to her sisters wedding. When they’re nearly there, their rented car breaks down and they find themselves in an abounded little place. It’s cold and they have no cell reception. When Mila wakes up, her husband has vanished into thin air. From now on, she has to do everything to stay alive. The book alternates between mila’s past and the now. Her upbringing with her sister is described, and we realize there is a rift between them that Mila is desperate to mend. The reader is taken to her past right after something new has happened that leaves us wanting more. What is really going on? Why are there no footprints and who is watching her? The paranoia seeps into the pages until you feel tainted by it. Mila constantly has to think on her feet, despite being in pain from...
